My gripe with Online Poker

Posted on: 12/15/25

I enjoy playing poker whether it be in person or online, but I think we can all agree that in-person poker is far superior to online poker. For one, a key aspect is lost online, poker is not just about the cards you are dealt, the people you are dealt as well. I could think of countless interactions I have had at the poker table and I think those interactions are why I love the game so much. For example, there is nothing worse than getting in good and getting a bad beat to a hand that should have never one. In person, this stinks, but there is nothing worse than this happening online. Most stories that I hear about online poker are bad beat ones, where someone has the nuts and loses to a guy going runner, runner to the new nuts. I can’t help but think online poker is rigged. On the other hand, the online poker world is not for everyone. I try my best to play GTO, but my biggest strengths as a poker player rely on reading and manipulating people in real time. I cannot do that with online poker. I think I need to put the computer down and stick to in person poker from now on. Or until I get bored at home. This…this is the issue I have with online poker. It brings the gamble out of the good ones and alienates the no-skill, GTO wannabees. I do not have the attention span to lock into a screen for hours and be patient. And to mention, I could have $10 or $100 online and it feels the same because I do not have the physical chips infront of me.
